Summer at theCO

Staying in Jackson this summer? West Tennessee may not have a place to lay your beach towel and enjoy the seabreeze, but theCO is offering a variety activities to keep you busy and entertained in the upcoming months.

The new CO.STARTERS program starts on May 22! This nine-week course equips aspiring entrepreneurs with the insights, relationships, and tools needed to turn their business ideas into action. Unlike traditional platforms, it applies the lean business model methods popular with high-growth startups to businesses of all kinds. Participants have the opportunity to learn how to market their business, what businesses license they need, organizing their business structure, and more.

Interested in learning a new skill? theCO is offering several workshops throughout the summer, including sessions on phone photography, Adobe Illustrator basics, and screen-printing t-shirts. Check them out—you never know when you may pick up a new hobby!

For young robot enthusiasts, theCO will be holding Robotics Camp on June 13-15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is a chance for anyone aged 10 to 17 to learn about the ever-growing world of robotics. Students will build a robot, learning about some of the basic concepts and ideas relating to robotics, and modify it to complete challenges or games. Additionally, students will learn how to program their robots using a block-based programming language. This block-based programming language will allow students to easily add sensors to their robot, which will allow your robot to make decisions based off of the world around it.

Have a knack for coming up with innovative solutions to problems? We’ll be hosting a hackathon will be in August. Stay tuned for more details for how you can be a part of the competition!

Join us in July to celebrate theCO’s fourth birthday! We will also be celebrating 731Day on July 31. (Get it?)

Meetups are going to take a summer break, but CO:bots will still be meeting on Thursdays at 5 p.m. All robot-lovers aged 10 and up are encouraged to attend!

And, of course, summer is the perfect time to jumpstart that idea or project you’ve thought about but never gotten around to making a reality. You can utilize our array of power tools and machines to create something in our makerspace. Or you can work in our coworking area while enjoying an endless supply of free coffee. Keep in mind, though, our summer business hours are Monday/Wednesday/Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday/Thursday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Whatever your summer plans, we’re confident you can find something to enjoy at theCO.
