Made at theCO: Mac Support Stand
If you’ve been by theCO lately you may have noticed a new face, Michael Isaachsen recently joined our team as Community Manager. In his first couple of weeks, he noticed one of the iMacs had an issue where the hinges in the stand were broken. So, he set out to fix it with a 3D printed solution.
“The process to make this stand was a lot of trial and error, my first design was very complex for a 3d printer to print once I tried printing it, so I had to completely overhaul the design. After troubleshooting the printer, and trying many different settings to find how to print my design as best as possible I successfully did it! I would recommend using rafts as the raft helps the print keep from warping up on the edges,” says Michael.
There will be much trial and error in order to get the print to the state that you want it, but know that you can always ask for help when you need it and use your resources to troubleshoot any errors that you run into.

Step 1:
Get the measurements required for the object you are trying to create. Don’t over-engineer your design, sometimes simple is best!
Step 2:
Before you start your print, make sure that your temperature settings are dialed in in the settings so you run into as few issues as possible
Step 3:
Keep an eye on your print to make sure it doesn't mess up mid-print. For future reference, if you see your print warping like mine is in the picture; you may need to re-level the bed or adjust temperature settings.
Step 4:
Success! After waiting patiently, and hoping it doesn't mess up! Eureka! it is finished!
