CO:member Spotlight: Alex Russell and The Social Environment of theCO

Every time I see Alex Russell, videographer for Adelsberger Marketing, at theCO he’s usually doing a dance in the middle of the room to whatever song is currently playing over the speakers or cracking jokes with his friends who work here. For Alex, theCO is a space that inspires him to be creative by working among other creative people. He comes to this space to be inspired while editing videos or to interact with the connections he’s made here over the years. This space is filled with memories, people and encouragement from Alex’s two years of working here.

Alex’s title is videographer, so he comes to theCO to work on editing videos or uses it as a collaborative space for meetings. Alex is usually either filming a video, editing footage or contacting other people Adelsberger works with.

“The space itself has created connections and has been great to have a space to interact with people. As a creative person, I like to be able to be around people who are also creative and fun. I find it encouraging to see other people work on whatever they’re doing here,” said Alex. “Being in a space where you can be surrounded by people who have their own creative goals has been a nice place to learn from others.”

theCO is a nice neutral ground for Adelsberger Marketing as a company, and for Alex as an employee. You will usually see Alex in the middle coworking area so he can have a hard surface to work on as he’s carrying drives and editing videos, while also giving him the opportunity to interact with some of his favorite people.

One of Alex’s favorite stories from his time as a member at theCO was when William Donnell, one of the CO:founders, handed Alex a roll of gaff tape with no explanation. Alex and William purposely try to joke around with each other without saying any words, so all William said was, “you know what to do.” So naturally, Alex decided to make an entire farm out of this tape to try and impress William. When Alex proudly presented this tape farm to William, he saw it, and all he said was “do you know how expensive that tape is?”

These types of interactions are what create lasting relationships and lighten Alex’s day. It creates community among the people who work here and motivation to keep going. While theCO is a professional environment for your business, it is also a space that is relaxed and filled with friendly people you can joke around with, and maybe make a random gaff tape farm every once in a while.

We all need Alex’s life-of-the-party mindset to lighten the mood some days and to produce the excellent marketing Adelsberger’s team is known for. If you ever see Alex around theCO, turn on a good dance song and he’ll probably be your friend for life. Creatives need other creatives to lean on, and that’s what Alex has benefitted from the most as a member and a friend of theCO.
