Member Spotlight:Randall Phillips

Recently, we posted an interview with CO:Member, Randall Phillips, in the Jackson Sun. But there was a lot more to the interview that didn't get published. Here's the discussion in full!

Randall Phillps

Tell us a little about yourself.
Professionally I have been a family and health professional for years. I am a married father of a son and daughter and proud grandfather. I received my bachelor’s degree at Union University, my master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy at the California Family Studies Center and my Ph.D is in Rehabilitation with a concentration in Research. Additionally, I am a Listed Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 31 Mediator which mainly involves conflict resolution.

Why did you pursue a career in mental health therapy?
I’ve always found people more interesting than anything else. I almost became a doctor, but decided to remain focused on behavioral health. I wanted to understand human behavior, and learn how to practice family therapy. Understanding behavior and the context of relationships has helped me understand people and their behavior regardless of the setting or experience.

What does your day consist of?
I used to see clients all day long. Additionally, I also served on the staff of hospitals. Today, my time is spent consulting colleges and universities and identifying which undergraduate and graduate programs are an ideal fit for their locale.

What do you like about theCO?
I think it’s probably one of the more innovative ideas I’ve seen in the 10 years I’ve lived in Jackson. theCO provides an atmosphere and services that can promote a business start-up. I find theCO to be very stimulating because of the type of people that work there. My membership is a great investment in relationships. I think becoming a member could be a  very smart move for a person starting a business. theCO offers a great deal in their membership packages.
