Code Power

Earlier today I read TIME’s article on Google’s push to grow the female coder population – an encouraging project that involves Google investing millions to get young women more familiar with coding. This topic is close to home, as theCO recently hosted 11 girls aged 12-18 for a one day coding camp through 100 Girls of Code. To say the least, I’m intrigued.

As a woman in my early 30’s, I've pegged myself as ”creative” and said more times than I can recall that my brain just isn’t wired to understand code, but maybe I’m wrong. The more I understand about coding, the more I know for sure that to CODE is to have POWER. And who doesn’t want a little of that?

Miral Kotb, dancer & coder (and likely loads of other amazing things) says,

“I think the way the female mind works is organizing things and putting them together in a way that makes sense,” Kotb says. “And that’s what software development is: encountering a problem and figuring out how to solve it. And that’s cool.”
