Decoding Coding

Some of you (nerds) reading this might laugh, but I don't know a thing about coding. 

I know, I know. It's 2014 and I'm writing a blog post. Shouldn't I know at least a little about this foreign language? Well I think I actually speak for the majority when I say I know almost nothing about coding. Many of us have heard the words "HTML" or "CSS" in a conversation and felt like this:

But like I said, these are languages. And these languages are becoming more and more prominent in our culture, so it might help to know something about them. But where do you even start? Well, just as we have Rosetta Stone for spoken languages, there are many great resources to teach you to "speak" code. I've started learning and training on Codecademy. This site walks you through the basics of web development, APIs, and a variety of coding languages. Its accessible user-interface makes it enjoyable to learn and practice coding. But the best part...it's FREE. Yeah, that's right. Even Arnold can't resist such a deal.

While I don't plan to make a career out of coding anytime soon (a.k.a. the next 10,000 years), it's comforting to know that I can at least understand some of its terminology and basic structure. If you feel as lost as I do sometimes when it comes to "internet voodoo", I strongly encourage you to try out Codecademy. Don't get left in the dust of those uber-coding, job-stealing, basement dwellers (I'm looking at you, Zuckerberg.)
